Dr. Lance Ashworth received his medical degree from Midwestern University, and his undergraduate degree in Biology from The University of Texas at Austin. He spent 18 months doing his internship and post-graduate training in General Practice at Florida Hospital Memorial Division. He immediately opened the first 100% dedicated medical weight loss clinic in the area.  It has been through hard work, dedication to the developement of a healthy, medical approach to weight loss that his clinic in Ormond Beach, Fl has continued to grow and succeed. The only way a weight loss clinic survives in a relatively small community is if it reaps success.  It is only through the word of mouth of those that have succeeded in losing the weight and then keeping it off that his clinic has been able to thrive, even in the face of at times the worse of economic environments this country has ever seen. Physicians in larger cities like Miami, New York, or Los Angeles who practice poor medical weight loss have the benefit of always having "new patients" that probably hadn't heard of them and may unknowingly spend their hard earned money on out dated, useless weight loss programs that are based on unsound or no medical science at all.  The question should never be how many pounds a doctor or run of the mill weight loss program has helped a community lose, but how many pounds that doctor or program has helped the community keep off over the long term!  His clinic has always had an open door policy where his patients understand he is their personal weight loss doctor and always available.  It will be the same for the readers of this book.  He plans on keeping an open line of communication by way of the internet.  We are in the process of creating an open forum for readers of his book where Dr. Ashworth will be available live to chat, answer questions, and offer advice.  Dr. Ashworth's clinic website can be viewed at: www.ashworthmedicalclinic.com.

Therefore Dr. Ashworth also trains physicians in the treatment of the obese patient. He does this through a program he developed called the "Bariatric Preferred Physicians Program (BP3)". As mentioned earlier he also has written a copyrighted manual of medical weight loss referred to as "Advanced Medical Weight Loss Protocols: The Ashworth Weigh". He will continue to teach. The only difference is the approach will be from patient to doctor.  Where the patient can read this book, ask the right medical questions based on symptoms and diseases they themselves can see mimic how they feel.  They cut out the last page; fill out the information as to where their doctor practices, and Dr. Ashworth will send out, free of charge his weight loss protocols to their doctor.  Their docto then will have access to dr. Ashworth through a different website dedicated to the education of physicians around the country.

Dr. Ashworth is a firm believer in exercise, surfing being his true love, holds a Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do, trains in Mixed Martial Arts with the Jiu-Jitsu instruction originating primarily through the Gracie system of Brazilian Jiu-jitsu, and feels as though each patient must find some sort of activity they can perform regularly THAT RELIEVES STRESS. Did surfing get mentioned?  Dr. Ashworth has a variety of exercise programs to offer his patients. From simple cardiovascular walks to more advanced resistance training programs. It all depends on the level of the patient. Dr. Ashworth places so much emphasis on exercise not only because this will make weight loss more rapid, but because it will ensure the weight lost is maintained. Dr. Ashworth will work with each patient to make sure there is some activity each patient can perform regardless of their mobility issues.

Dr. Ashworth has 20 years of experience in health and fitness. He uses this experience along with his medical training to offer the most unique, comprehensive, and reproducible advanced medical weight loss program available. All programs offered at Ashworth Medical are based on his patients' medical conditions, their personal preferences, home and work environment, and stress levels. When patients gain weight the reasons are multi-faceted, and Dr. Ashworth believes the weight loss program should be multi-faceted also. He is affiliated with the following societies:
